New Blog Post: Breaking Victory: No Drills, No Spills

There are many environmental clubs here at Berkeley, and they each have a special niche, whether it is helping with sustainability on campus, in the Bay Area or California, however, CALPIRG definitely has the largest overall impact. Congratulations on their---I mean our-- recent victory!

We Won!Hi,

You asked the Obama Administration to stop plans for offshore drilling, and today they did just that.

The Obama Administration just announced that it will protect the coasts of the continental United States from new drilling through 2017. This is a huge victory.

Offshore drilling is dirty and dangerous - for our coastal communities, ecosystems, and economies. An oil spill can cause decades of damage. That's why we joined a coalition of groups across the country to call for an end to new offshore drilling and a renewed commitment to breaking our country's dependence on oil.

You made this happen. Since this summer's disaster, more than 400,000 of you signed petitions and made calls to the Obama administration calling for a ban on new offshore drilling. And despite heavy pressure from big oil and gas companies, we won.

It’s time to use clean, renewable energy sources and today's announcement is a big step in that direction.

Congratulations! Please share this victory with your friends. Together we will continue to stand up to powerful interests and fix the problems our country faces.

Thanks,
Lucas Zucker
